Things to see and do in Kirkby Lonsdale
Kirkby Lonsdale is arguably the gateway to both the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales depending on which way you’re traveling!
A beautiful market town, which whilst retaining its market town appeal, with a traditional market every Thursday, has in recent years become one of those ‘run out’ destinations for browsing and lunching. There are at least a dozen top notch eating houses to choose from and a wealth of shops to browse.
Nearby 'Devil’s Bridge' is ideal for picnics for travellers and for those with more time on their hands who wish to take a dip in the river.
'Ruskin’s View' is also very popular with visitors.
Kirkby Lonsdale celebrates St. Georges Day in April and hosts brass band championships in June and Morris Dancing championships in July. In the first weekend of September there is the famous Victorian fair and there are special Christmas weekends in the run up to Christmas.
Markets are held every Thursday (half-day closing for some is Wednesday). James Atkinson, the Auctioneers and Valuers hold an antique furniture sale on the first Wednesday and Thursday of every month and a fine art sale on the third Thursday every month.
